We offer the Heartsaver CPR/AED that includes the fundamental concepts of providing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using an automated external defibrillator (AED). The course is designed for participants who are not healthcare providers and who would like to gain the basic skills needed that might save a life or prevent further injury.
This course is open to participants and does not require any prior medical knowledge or healthcare background. Our course covers treatment of children and infants as well, making this the ideal course for virtually anyone who may deal with others in an emergency situation at home, work, or while traveling. The course also meets or exceeds the requirements of many insurance companies that require basic training in CPR / First Aid in the workplace.
Note that this course, while comprehensive in nature, is not necessarily appropriate for everyone, as it is primarily intended for a non-healthcare audience (we recommend you check with your school or employer to make sure they will accept this course for proof of CPR training).
After successfully completing the Heartsaver CPR AED Course, students should be able to:
- list the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of the first aid rescuer
- describe the key steps in first aid
- describe the assessment of and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke
- use an epinephrine pen
- control bleeding
- recognize elements of common injuries and illnesses
- recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers.
Do you work primarily with infants, children, or adolescents? If so, you should consider taking the Pediatric version of this course that includes CPR for adults, yet carries a much heavier emphasis on treatment of children.
