Course Audience

After taking this course, students should talk with their employer about their workplace’s specific policies and procedures. Those who complete the training receive a Bloodborne Pathogens Training certification valid for one year. You should meet with your employer representative to learn about specific policies and procedures and answer questions about how this training content applies to your workplace. This updated version of the Bloodborne Pathogens Training classroom course includes all new materials to support the current learning objectives of the course with a more engaging experience for the participants.

Course Objectives

  • The purpose of the American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens Training course is to teach participants:
  • What bloodborne pathogens are.
  • How bloodborne pathogens are spread.
  • How to help prevent exposure incidents by following work practice controls, using engineering controls and personal protective equipment (PPE), practicing good personal hygiene, and properly cleaning and disinfecting equipment and supplies.
  • How to recognize, report and follow up on employee exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials.
